Do you enjoy messy crafts, outdoor games, and helping young children discover the world around them? As a Beavers Team Leader, you’ll guide a lively Colony of 6-8 year olds on their first big Scouting adventures!
This is your chance to ignite their curiosity, build their confidence, and introduce them to the fun and friendship of Scouting. You’ll lead a team of enthusiastic volunteers in delivering a creative and engaging programme that encourages teamwork, exploration, and personal growth.
Who is responsible for you?
The Group Lead Volunteer.
As the Beaver Team Lead, you will also be a valued member of the Group Leadership Team, and so the Group Lead Volunteer is your go-to person for all things support, guidance, and connection to the wider Group vision. They are there to help you succeed in your role, ensuring you have the resources and information needed to lead your fantastic Beaver Colony..
Beaver Team Tasks
Plan and Deliver a great programme
- Work with young people to plan and deliver a great programme, including nights away and adventurous activities
- Help Beavers earn their top award – The Chief Scout’s Bronze Award
- Find ways to continue to improve the programme
- Tailor the programme to the needs of your Beaver Colony
- Include community members to help run programme nights
Make sure there’s a great culture for all
- Help young people and volunteers feel welcome and included, and make changes (when necessary) so the environment and activities are accessible for everyone.
- Mentor volunteers in the team and help them develop, including Young Leaders.
- Check volunteers behave positively and in line with Our Volunteering Culture.
Communicate with others
- Talk with Parents/Carers and Young People about the programme
- Keep Parents/Carers well informed about what is happening in your section
- Help young people move between sections
Make sure admin is done correctly
- Get contact and medical details for new members.
- Keep all records up to date, including badges, attendance register & contact details.
- Give the Group Trustee Board the information they need to set the budget
Create a safe environment
- Create a safe environment for young people by sharing the Yellow Card with parents and carers and the Orange Card with Young Leaders. Ensure all members of the team follow the safe scouting cards and brief helpers on the practical aspects of safety and safeguarding.
- Check the programme can run safely.
- Make sure adult:child safeguarding ratios are always maintained and there’s a leader in charge for each session.
- Create and review risk assessments.
- Check there are first aid kits or supplies for all activities.
- Review safety incidents and report them in the right way.
- Report any safeguarding concerns directly to the UKHQ Safeguarding Team
