Volunteer

Giving back will improve your wellbeing, equip you with skills for the future, and help you make a positive impact on the lives of young people

It’s #GoodForYou

Share your skills, gain new ones. Volunteering’s not just about giving back – it goes both ways. It improves your wellbeing, gives you skills for the future, and helps you make new friends (and memories).

We rely on people like you playing their part to give young people the opportunities they need.

But volunteering’s not just about giving something back. It’s also about doing something that’s good for you. Volunteering gives you career-boosting skills, improves your wellbeing, and helps you make connections with friends, family and your local community.

Leeds Templars needs you!

At the moment, we don’t have enough Leaders to meet the growing demand of Young People that want to join Scouts.

Young People and Adults alike know of the amazing skills Scouts teaches and want to take part – that’s where you come in!

There are plenty of ways to get involved:

  • Welcome young people and families to sessions and events
  • Make sure everyone’s safe, supported, included and having fun
  • Help to plan and lead activities
  • Get involved with days out, camps and expeditions
  • Help with fundraising and financing
  • Share and learn skills – from coding to cake decorating to canoeing
  • Celebrate young people’s achievements big and small
  • Assisting Leaders with administration
  • Teaching one-off sessions in a topic you enjoy

You don’t have to Bear Grylls to help out

At Scouts we celebrate difference and welcome everyone.

Whatever your background, identity or ability, there’s a volunteer spot with your name on it.

There are lots of ways you can get involved, from helping out occasionally on a parent rota to volunteering your time as a leader. Our volunteering opportunities are as varied as you! Because whether you’re helping a leader to run an activity in the local village hall, organising a night away, or buttering 120 slices of bread for a group of very hungry eleven year olds – no two Scout meetings are the same. The difference you make, though, is always great.

Volunteering with young people

No previous experience with young people? No problem

Whether you’d like to help out week-after-week or whenever-you-can, we provide training, learning opportunities and cups of tea – every step of the way.
Scouts has 6 sections and you can help young people at any age:

Squirrels (4-6), Beavers (6-8), Cubs (8-10½), Scouts (10½-14), Explorers (14-18), Network (18-25)

Want to make a big impact behind the scenes?

We’re looking for people to make an impact behind the scenes.

Tell us what you’re interested in, and we’ll help you find something that matches your skills (and the time you have available).

We’d love to give you the chance to try out different things, meet the team, and see what support’s on offer before you decide whether to be involved. You’ll learn career-friendly skills, boost your wellbeing, and make new friends. Because volunteering at Scouts is a two-way street – good for young people, and good for you too.

You can help behind the scenes both with your local Scout Group or at District level. Fill in the form at the link below and we’ll do our best to help you reach the best place and ensure your skills help the most young people that they can.
